Synopsis and Discussion

Ozone levels have been slowly creeping towards the upper Code GREEN range this afternoon as downsloping northwesterly winds coming off the Appalachians has led to dry compressional warming that has allow ozone production to increase across the Triad. Winds become calmer tomorrow morning before increasing from the southwest later in the afternoon as cloud cover begins to gradually increase. With that said, ozone levels are expected to remain in the upper Code GREEN range on Friday. Upper level troughing to the west begins to amplify, allowing an area of low pressure to move across the Carolinas Saturday morning through the early afternoon. Skies may begin to clear out later in the afternoon and evening, but air quality levels should easily remain well within the Code GREEN range. Dry high pressure builds over the Triad on Sunday, with below normal temperatures and sunny skies leading to upper Code GREEN AQI for ozone. Particle pollution should remain a secondary pollutant to ozone through the weekend. (Payne) *** Due to increased wildfire risk and severe to extreme drought across the state, the N.C. The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is making data available from the county's air monitoring network as a public service. These data represent the hourly data set from all of the sites within this network. Data from Triad sites outside of Forsyth County are collected by the North Carolina Division of Air Quality.
